Why you shouldn't use Internet Explorer 6

The Reason

Internet Explorer 6 is full of bugs and secuity holes. Just as a security measure alone you should be upgraded to the latest Internet Explorer available. This is IE8. These bugs make it almost impossible for a website to have a cutting edge design but still work on all browsers. Also the mere existance of IE6 makes the lives of web designers miserable because not only do they have to make the website work for most browsers, they have to go back through everything to insert a bunch IE6 Hacks to make the site presentable on Internet Explorer 6. Well say no more! There is no good reason, what-so-ever, that you need to be still running IE6 and we are going to help you make that change!

What are the options?

You have a few different options at your disposial and provided here is instructions on how to obtain an alternative browser.

  • Upgrade to IE8 - This can be problemsome if you are not the administrator of the computer. If you are at work you may have to contact your IT department and ask them to upgrade your computer.
  • Use Mozilla FireFox - Firefox can install to your user directory if you are not an administrator so this may be an option for you.
  • Use Google Chrome - Chrome can also be installed to your user directory if you are not an administrator so this may also be an option for you.

I cant install any of those! Help!

In the rare case that none of the above installers worked for you (probably because of group policy on your work domain). There is another solution. It is a portable version of FireFox that is designed to go on a USB Flash Memory Stick. If you dont have one of those, you can get one for cheap at your local computer store (you may also be able to install it locally to the computer somewhere like the My Documents folder). Anyway, Click Here for download and installation instructions. Make sure you follow them and you will be up and running before you know it, seeing the web in a whole new light!

If you still have problems with this it may be because your local policy is preventing you from downloading executable files from the web. If this is the problem, you will have to install FireFox Portable to a USB Flash Memory Stick at home, and then bring it into work.
