Sonar Festival Chicago, Barcelona's Sonar Festival to Come to Chicago

Barcelona's Sonar Festival has laid plans for a Chicago event on September 9th - 11th, with the intention to make it an annual festival. Sonar has done festivals in Sau Paulo, London and Tokyo (among others), and this will follow the first U.S.-based Sonar evens in New York and Washington last year.

They'll join up with AC Entertainment to put on the show, and will handle the Sonar by Day events at the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and the Chicago Cultural Center. They'll announce Sonar by Night details in July with lineup and locations.

Sonar organizers are calling the Chicago happening a "multidisciplinary line-up with an experimental slant," so it seems like it will live up to its established street cred.

The Sonar Festival has been known as Spain's mashup of music and film and video, all rolled into one big multimedia festival. The 2010 Sonar Festival is happening now (June 17th - 19th) in Barcelona, Spain. 2010 also marks the first incarnation of a Sonar event in A Coruña, titled Sónar Galacia, on the same days.

You will be competing with a multitude of events that undoubtedly will capture the majority of people that are in town for Sonar. If anything, you might be able to capitalize by booking a Sonar artist for your event and then promoting heavily to your regular crowd that may or may not even know that Sonar is happening.

I know there are many people in "my" scene that are prepping for fairly big parties.
